Sylvia Ponce De Leon
Financial Aid Analyst
College of DuPage
Sylvia Ponce De Leon has been working in higher education financial aid for the past 16 years. She is an expert in state and federal financial aid compliance as well as technical systems. Her career began in 2005 where she worked for Moraine Valley Community College as the Financial Aid Technical Coordinator. In this role she was able to streamline processes and reduce the time it took for students to receive financial assistance.
In 2011, she was chosen as Associate Director of Financial Aid at Governors State University. She played a vital role in the implementation of the new student information system. Her work at GSU significantly improved financial aid policies and procedures. As a result, audit findings were dramatically reduced and student satisfaction with the Office of Financial Aid greatly increased. In 2019, she was promoted to Interim Director of Financial Aid. Earlier this year, Sylvia was named the Financial Aid Analyst at the College of DuPage. She has already hit the ground running and is working diligently to streamline processes and create a better student financial aid experience.
Sylvia has an uncanny ability to work closely with students and assist in their professional development. She has led the Alliance for Latin American Students, is bilingual, and has a special gift for helping first generation minority students meet their educational goals. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and a Master’s degree from Governors State University.
